Ukraine and the United Kingdom have reached a new level of defence cooperation. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky announced this following his meeting with British Prime Minister Keir Starmer in London.
“The first meeting with Prime Minister Keir Starmer in the strategic dialogue format. We signed the Declaration on Deepening Cooperation in Security and Defence Industry. This is an important step for strengthening our defence,” Zelensky wrote in his Telegram channel.
According to the Ukrainian leader, the parties discussed the development of joint defence production, strengthening Ukraine’s air defence with additional missiles, and the escalation in the Middle East.
Starmer emphasised that the conflict in the region has increased the need for rapid military innovations, which are of key importance for the national and economic security of the United Kingdom. “Today we agreed on a new defence partnership between Ukraine and the United Kingdom, which will strengthen Ukraine’s ability to defend itself against Russia’s brutal attacks and ensure the readiness of the United Kingdom and our allies to confront future threats,” Starmer wrote on social media platform X.
