Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky stated in a press briefing in Kyiv that the country plans to purchase 25 additional Patriot air defense systems under a long-term agreement with the United States.
First delivered to Ukraine in 2023 under the Biden administration, the Patriot surface-to-air missile systems continue to play a critical role in defending against Russia’s concentrated missile attacks on Ukrainian military targets and civilian infrastructure.
Speaking at the briefing, which was attended by the Kyiv Independent, Zelensky said: “In coordination with the relevant US institutions, we have held discussions with defense contractors regarding air defense systems, and we are preparing a contract for 25 Patriot systems.”
