The 6th Foreign Ministers’ Meeting between China and Central Asian countries was held in Almaty, Kazakhstan. The meeting laid a comprehensive political foundation for the second China-Central Asia Summit to be held later this year, and the sides held talks on deepening cooperation in all fields.

In his speech at the meeting, Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi said that the United States has acted unilaterally and imposed arbitrary tariffs on more than 180 countries, which violates international rules. He stressed that China not only protects its rights and interests, but also takes necessary countermeasures to defend international order and justice. As the world’s second largest economy and a responsible global actor, China will resolutely pursue its policy of high-level opening-up, Wang Yi said, adding that China will seek common development with neighboring countries and continue to fulfill its global responsibilities. Foreign ministers of the Central Asian countries attending the meeting also expressed their readiness to harmonize the Belt and Road Initiative with their countries’ national development strategies. They agreed to jointly combat terrorism, extremism, separatism and cross-border crimes and maintain regional peace.
