Albania has fulfilled all its legislative obligations to the European Union (EU) in the energy sector.
According to the Balkan bureau of Report, this was announced by the country’s Minister of Infrastructure and Energy, Enea Karakachi.
He noted that this reform places Albania among the most advanced countries in the region in terms of bringing its energy legislation into line with EU standards.
“Albania and Montenegro are currently among the few countries in the region to have met all the legal requirements in this area. Solar energy already accounts for more than 10 per cent of the country’s electricity generation. Albania has already installed around 650 megawatts of solar power capacity and is evaluating further projects in the fields of solar and wind energy,” Karakachi emphasised.
The Minister of Energy also called on the EU to speed up funding mechanisms for the Western Balkans and stated that faster investment in energy interconnectors is crucial for the integration of renewable energy sources and for strengthening regional energy security.
