Azerbaijan, Georgia, Hungary and Romania signed a joint letter on the “Green Energy Corridor” project at a ceremony in Budapest. The signing ceremony aims to strengthen cooperation between the four countries on the development of renewable energy sources and enhancing energy security.
Azerbaijan’s Minister of Energy Perviz Shahbazov, Georgia’s Minister of Economy and Sustainable Development Levan Davitashvili, Hungary’s Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade Péter Szijjártó and Romania’s Minister of Energy Sebastian-Ioan Burduja discussed the implementation of joint projects in the field of green energy and strengthening energy infrastructure. The Green Energy Corridor project aims to transport renewable energy resources from the Caspian Sea region to Europe. The project aims to combine Azerbaijan’s rich renewable energy potential with Georgia’s geographical location to export energy to Europe via Hungary and Romania. The project aims to increase regional energy security and contribute to global climate goals. Speaking at the signing ceremony, Azerbaijan’s Energy Minister Perviz Shahbazov said, “This project is of great importance not only in the field of energy, but also in terms of regional cooperation and sustainable development. Azerbaijan remains committed to developing renewable energy sources and aims to contribute to Europe’s energy needs through this project,” said Perviz Shahbazov, Minister of Energy of Azerbaijan. Georgian Minister of Economy and Sustainable Development Levan Davitashvili said that the project is a milestone for regional cooperation, “Georgia plays a strategic role in terms of energy corridors thanks to its geographical location. This project offers new opportunities for both our country and the region.”
