Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi began a three-day visit to India aimed at implementing the leaders’ agreements, maintaining high-level exchanges, enhancing political trust, strengthening cooperation, and constructively addressing differences. His schedule includes talks with National Security Adviser Ajit Doval during the 24th round of Special Representatives’ talks on the boundary question, a meeting with External Affairs Minister Subrahmanyam Jaishankar, and an audience with Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Experts from both countries see the visit as a sign of mutual willingness to improve ties and build trust. The meetings also pave the way for Modi’s upcoming visit to China to attend the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) summit. The main focus will be on carrying out existing agreements, maintaining peace along the border, and possibly discussing trade and resumption of flight services. Analysts further note that India’s recalibration of its foreign policy is another backdrop to Wang’s visit. Recent US tariff hikes have highlighted limits in India-US ties, pushing New Delhi toward a more balanced diplomacy that emphasizes strategic autonomy and seeks stronger relations with all major powers, including China.
