On 11 March 2026, Deputy Andrei Lukin stated on the sidelines of the Senate that Kazakhstan has strengthened anti-terrorism measures to protect strategic facilities, including major oil projects, amid tensions in the Middle East, according to a Zakon.kz correspondent.
Journalists asked how the country was strengthening the security of strategic facilities following the head of state’s instructions. They also inquired about the level of security at major oil projects, in particular the Kashagan and Tengizchevroil facilities, and the availability of air defence systems at these sites.
“Indeed, the head of state immediately drew attention to anti-terrorist security. A special meeting of the Security Council was held. All our structures have been put on high alert as a preventive measure. As for preventive measures, first of all, I would like to respond specifically to the issue of anti-terrorist security at our strategic facilities. I would like to draw your attention to the fact that our oil production enterprises located in the Republic of Kazakhstan have appropriate divisions, and naturally, they have appropriate tasks specifically to counter terrorist attacks: from the air, from the ground, and from the Caspian Sea,” Lukin said.
At the same time, the senator stressed that Kazakhstan is taking all necessary measures to ensure anti-terrorist security.
