Kenya and the southwestern Chinese municipality of Chongqing have signed agreements worth more than $380 million to deepen economic and trade ties.
The economic and trade meeting in the capital Nairobi was attended by more than 200 people, including senior officials and business representatives from both countries. Eight cooperation agreements were signed between companies from Kenya and Chongqing. Kenya’s Minister of Investment, Trade and Industry Lee Maiyani Kinyanjui said Kenya welcomes China’s growing business interest and encourages more Chinese companies to establish local manufacturing facilities in Kenya. “We have strategic investments such as the Port of Mombasa and other critical infrastructure projects. We are creating industrial zones that offer attractive incentives for investors,” Kinyanjui said, emphasizing Kenya’s commitment to strengthen its economic partnership with China. Chongqing Mayor Hu Henghua called for the launch of direct flights between Chongqing and Kenya, noting the need to improve infrastructure links. Henghua also emphasized the importance of facilitating the entry of Kenya’s quality products, especially coffee, tea and flowers, into the Chongqing market.
