Russian Security Council Deputy Chairman Dmitry Medvedev stated that no “security guarantees” for Ukraine can be valid unless Russia’s position is taken into account. He criticized Western discussions on the issue, saying: “They are gathering to decide what guarantees to give Ukraine. But did they ask us? If there is a conflict or special military operation, they should at least consult with us. Instead, they make something up and present it as guarantees, which will clearly have no consequences.”
His remarks came after the September 4 meeting of the “coalition of the willing” in Paris, attended by European leaders and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky. At a press conference, French President Emmanuel Macron announced that 26 coalition members had confirmed their readiness to send military contingents to Ukraine once a ceasefire or peace is established. A total of 35 participants attended the meeting, with several countries still considering their stance.
