Italy has blocked NATO’s agreement on long-term commitments regarding military aid to Ukraine for 2027 ahead of the alliance’s summit in Turkey.

According to Report, this was reported by the Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung, citing a diplomatic source.

On Tuesday, a meeting of representatives from NATO member states took place in Brussels to discuss the draft final declaration for the summit, which is due to take place on 7–8 July. The alliance members were able to agree on allocating 70 billion euros for military support to Kyiv in 2026, but due to disagreements, they were unable to agree on similar commitments for 2027.

As noted in the publication’s report, the draft document was due to include a clause confirming the allies’ commitment to maintaining a comparable level of military aid to Ukraine next year, which Italy did not approve.

The next meeting of representatives from the Alliance’s member states is scheduled for 2 July, at which they will attempt to reach an agreement.
