Ahead of the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) summit, which will take place in Tianjin, China, from 31 August to 1 September 2025, Uzbekistan is consistently strengthening its position as one of the key participants in the organisation. Under the leadership of President Shavkat Mirziyoyev, the republic is pursuing an active foreign policy aimed at strengthening cooperation and trust between SCO member states.
The SCO was established in 2001 and today unites nine member states, as well as three observer countries and 14 dialogue partners. The organisation accounts for about one-third of global GDP in terms of purchasing power parity, 27% of global foreign direct investment and about 20% of world trade.
As one of the founding members of the SCO, Uzbekistan has contributed to the development of multilateral dialogue from the very beginning. However, it is in recent years, thanks to the personal initiative and consistent diplomatic work of President Mirziyoyev, that Tashkent has become one of the main architects of strategic approaches within the organisation.
