Warsaw has received a positive signal from the US regarding the deployment of a permanent American military base in Poland. According to the European bureau of Report, Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk made this statement to journalists ahead of the EU summit in Brussels.
He said he was very pleased to receive a letter from the US Secretary of Defence regarding plans to establish a permanent US military base in Poland. The Prime Minister noted that he had not expected such a swift and positive response from Washington to the Polish authorities’ efforts to prepare the necessary infrastructure for this purpose.
At the same time, Tusk emphasised that a final decision had not yet been taken and that the parties still needed to agree on further details. However, he said, Poland had come significantly closer to securing approval, which would “radically change the country’s sense of security”. The Prime Minister added that he hoped to accelerate negotiations on this issue, noting the contribution of Poland’s Defence Minister, Władysław Kosiniak-Kamysz, to the organisational work and cooperation with the American side.
