Uzbekistan and the EU discussed cooperation in the field of digital transformation

Uzbekistan’s Minister for Digital Technologies, Sherzod Shermatov, held talks with Charlotte Adrian, Head of the Central Asia and Afghanistan Unit at the European Commission’s Directorate-General for International Cooperation (DG INTPA), Charlotte Adrian, as well as with representatives of the European Union Delegation to Uzbekistan.

During the meeting, the parties discussed expanding cooperation between Uzbekistan and the EU in the field of digital transformation, the development of telecommunications infrastructure and the roll-out of modern communications services in remote areas of the country.

Particular attention was paid to the implementation of a regional project under the EU’s Global Gateway initiative, aimed at developing telecommunications in hard-to-reach areas of Central Asia and Uzbekistan.

The parties also discussed ways to enhance the project’s effectiveness, improve its mechanisms, coordinate financial and technical matters, and accelerate its practical implementation.

Furthermore, the participants exchanged views on the development of digital infrastructure, satellite communications and the deepening of regional digital integration between the European Union and Uzbekistan.
