Uzbekistan and the World Bank discussed cooperation as part of a long-term tourism development strategy in regions with high tourism potential.
The discussions took place during a meeting between Sukhrobjon Bobokalonov, Deputy Chairman of the Committee on Tourism of Uzbekistan, and Peter Ellis, the World Bank’s Practice Leader for Urban Development, Disaster Risk Management, Sustainable Development and Land Resources in Europe and Central Asia, reports Trend, citing the Committee.
During the talks, the Uzbek side presented the reforms being carried out in the tourism sector and measures to create favourable conditions for the development of modern tourism infrastructure, emphasising the desire to make tourism one of the key drivers of the country’s economic growth.
The parties noted that 35 districts and cities with high tourism potential have been selected in Uzbekistan, and a strategy for the sector’s development up to 2050 is being drawn up with the participation of World Bank experts. The programme provides for infrastructure development, increased employment, economic diversification and the creation of new jobs.
Following the meeting, it was emphasised that the cooperation would contribute to a more effective utilisation of Uzbekistan’s tourism potential, the sustainable development of regions and an improvement in the population’s well-being.
