By 2030, Uzbekistan will increase the share of renewable energy sources (RES) in the overall electricity generation mix to 54 per cent, raising total generation to 120 billion kilowatt-hours.
According to Trend, this was announced by the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan, Shavkat Mirziyoyev, speaking at the St Petersburg International Economic Forum (SPIEF).
He noted that through the implementation of large-scale investment projects, the republic has already managed to increase electricity production by one and a half times — from the previous 58 to the current 87 billion kilowatt-hours.
The commissioning of the first integrated nuclear power plant in the Jizzakh region will be a key element of long-term technological development and the diversification of the national energy mix. The President of Uzbekistan recalled that the day before, together with Russian President Vladimir Putin and IAEA Director General Rafael Grossi, he had taken part in the ‘first concrete’ pouring ceremony at the NPP construction site.
“For us, this is a project for long-term development, the training of a new generation of engineers and the adoption of cutting-edge technologies. We intend to work together in other areas of the peaceful use of nuclear energy – in medicine, agriculture, industry and science,” said Shavkat Mirziyoyev.
