Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orbán has conceded defeat for his Fidesz party in the parliamentary elections.

According to Report, the Hungarian Prime Minister made the announcement during a televised address.

Orbán stated that the ruling political force had lost the election.

With 53.45% of the votes counted, Fidesz is provisionally leading the parliamentary elections in Hungary, securing 136 of the 199 seats in parliament. The Fidesz–Christian Democratic People’s Party alliance has secured 56 seats, whilst the far-right Our Homeland party has seven seats.

Orbán also congratulated Péter Magyar, leader of the opposition party “Tisa”, on his victory in the parliamentary elections, without waiting for the final vote count.

Magyar reported this on his Facebook page.

“Prime Minister Viktor Orbán has just congratulated us on the phone on our victory,” he wrote.

It should be noted that the parliamentary elections in Hungary saw a record voter turnout in the country’s history.
