China-India foreign ministers’ meeting achieves 10 outcomes

On August 16, Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi and Indian Foreign Minister Subrahmanyam Jaishankar held talks, engaging in constructive and forward-looking discussions on bilateral, regional, and international issues. Both sides emphasized the crucial role of the two countries’ leaders in guiding relations and affirmed that a stable, cooperative, and forward-looking partnership serves their mutual interests. China welcomed Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s attendance at the upcoming SCO Summit in Tianjin, while India reaffirmed full support for China’s presidency. They also agreed to support each other in hosting the 2026 and 2027 BRICS summits. The two sides committed to resuming intergovernmental dialogue mechanisms, celebrating the 75th anniversary of diplomatic ties in 2025, restarting direct flights, and facilitating visas for tourists, businesses, media, and others. They further agreed to expand Indian pilgrimages to Tibet in 2026, enhance trade and investment flows, and maintain peace and stability along the border. Finally, both countries pledged to uphold multilateralism, strengthen global governance, maintain a WTO-centered trading system, and promote a multipolar world that protects the interests of developing nations.
